Cleveland IN FOCUS
Ohio has a reputation for producing some of the most fascinating people in the world — the best and the boldest. Maybe it’s something in the water. From LeBron James, the Wright Brothers, Bob Hope, Halle Berry, and Drew Carey to the ever-controversial Marilyn Manson, this state consistently sends unique talent out into the world.
Founded in 1796, Cleveland has always carried an undeniable sense of magic. The city blends history, grit, and creativity in a way that feels completely its own. You’ll find incredible places to eat — from Geraci’s Pizza to STEAK Cleveland — alongside legendary landmarks like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the West Side Market. Whether you’re grabbing a slice, catching a show, or wandering downtown with your camera, there’s always something happening in The Land.
Cleveland is also where I was born — right at Cleveland Metro Hospital. I didn’t always appreciate this city, but moving away to California gave me perspective. Coming back home made me realize how special this place truly is. In Ohio, you can build a life, chase dreams, and still afford to live comfortably — something that’s a lot harder to say about the West Coast unless you have millions.
One of my favorite shows, How I Met Your Mother, features a character named Ted Mosby — played by Ohio native Josh Radnor from Columbus. Little reminders like that make me proud of where I come from. The more I learn about Ohio’s history, the more inspired I feel. After all, Thomas Edison, the man who revolutionized the world with the incandescent light bulb, the phonograph, and the motion picture camera, was born right here in Milan, Ohio.
So if you’ve got big dreams or wild ideas, maybe the key isn’t moving to California — maybe it’s finding your focus right here in Ohio.
Jolene’s Honky Tonk BAR: tHE hEART Of East 4th’s Nightlife
Jolene’s Honky Tonk Bar opened its doors earlier this year, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite spots in downtown Cleveland. I’ve been photographing Jolene’s since August, and every visit has its own unique energy — this place never disappoints.
The rooftop bar sets the mood perfectly with swings instead of stools and a stunning view overlooking East 4th. Downstairs, you’ll find live bands, good food, creative cocktails, and even a photobooth that captures the night’s best moments. Time always seems to fly when I’m here.
Whether you’re a country music fan or not, Jolene’s is worth the stop. It’s the kind of place that brings people together — laid-back, lively, and full of personality. So grab a drink, kick back, and see why this spot has become one of Cleveland’s newest gems.
